Tennessee’s traditional sales tax holiday runs from 12:01 a.m. Friday through 11:59 p.m. Sunday and covers qualifying apparel, school supplies, art supplies, and computers.
What qualifies
- Clothing: $100 or less per item
- School and art supplies: $100 or less per item
- Computers, laptops, and tablets: $1,500 or less per item
Do online purchases count?
Qualifying online orders are generally exempt when the order is placed and payment is completed during the holiday under Tennessee’s rules.
State and local tax treatment
The holiday applies to state and local sales tax on qualifying purchases. Merchants selling eligible goods must participate.
Important limitation
Computer software, business purchases, and rentals do not qualify under the traditional holiday.
